“Urban Nexus: Water-Energy-Food/Land Innovations for Sustainable City Development”
30 July — 3 Aug 2019, Bangkok and Rayong Province, Thailand
Implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is critical to every sector of our society and calls to accelerate the progress in all spheres. Most of the current achievements in science, technology and innovation are based on sound research and development, and this is currently driven by the private sector, driven by profit. Making intellectual properties open-sourced and publicly available would have catalyzed the success of SDGs. In the current circumstances this goes against the interests of the business and the private sector. The public and private sector divide in values and lack of awareness on rules and regulations are currently hindering the progress and sustainability of many projects in cities of the region.
In this regard, Greenovation Institute (GII) is organising a common platform for the public and private sector, academia to create a common understanding of each other’s needs and to set up common goals and targets to ensure the sustainable management of water, energy and food/land in cities, and align them with SDGs and the “Low Carbon Green Growth Roadmap”.
Asia Pacific Innovation Week 2019 (APIW) will be organized during 30 July — 3 August 2019 in Bangkok and Rayong province, in conjunction to the Startup Thailand Week: “Startup Nation: Bangkok Innovation Corridor” (ST) organized by National Innovation Agency (NIA) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). The APIW is aimed at bringing together policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, investors, and media (approximately 500 delegates) from around the world, particularly Asia and the Pacific region, to have an open discussion and share knowledge and ideas on how to enable innovations for implementing the United Nations’ Asia-Pacific Roadmap for Sustainable Development and the Low Carbon Green Growth Roadmap. The APIW will be comprised of three (3) types of events, including Conference (C type), Seminar/Talk (S type), and Networking Party (P type). For the content, there are three (3) types of content, including Nexus Core (U type), Nexus Framework (N type), and Nexus Capacity Building/Case Study (X type) which is presenting in seventeen (17) sessions as explained in the agenda below.
The flagship event of APIW 2019 is the Asia Pacific Conference on Green Innovation (APGI) 2019. It will be organized in the middle of the week, 31 July — 1 August 2019, and will be comprised of nine (9) sessions, including Water, Energy, Food/Land (as three (3) Nexus-core sessions), Blockchain, City, Finance, Civil Society, Governance (as five (5) Nexus-framework sessions), and Medical (as a (1) Capacity Building/Case Study session). The summary of each session will be highlighting messages and recommendations of the discussions at the cross-sectoral level through the conference proceeding.
The APIW aims to exchange knowledge, build capacity, policy advocate, and raise awareness of Urban Nexus innovations and creative public policy or business policy frameworks that are able to sustain them, especially in these fields; Wellness & Medical Innovation, Water Accounting Innovation, and Smart City Innovation.
